Tendai was born on 13 November 1973, in Mount Darwin, Zimbabwe, to a family of artists. He joined Edronce Rukodzi in 1989 and was mentored by him while still at school. Tendai sold his first artwork in 1989 (he was 16 years old) and after school set foot in the Tengenenge Art Community where he joined other artists - working with Raymond Chirambadare and Joe Mtasa. In Harare, Tendai started working with local galleries, which promoted him to international markets. He started gaining international recognition and did group exhibitions in many countries overseas. Tendai enjoys working on his figurative and abstract work. Spring stone, Opal Stone, and White Dolomite are some of his favorites.
