Taylor was born in Bulawayo, in 1979. He is a second-generation carver. Choosing to paint, design fabric, draw, and sculpt – Taylor is a versatile artist. Following his education at the Mzilikazi and Craft Center in Bulawayo, he studied from 1970 to 1973 at the Polytechnical College in his hometown. Thereafter he worked as a graphic artist at the National Gallery in Harare and finally started sculpting in 1977. He has received numerous awards for his works; his sculptures, textiles, and paintings have been exhibited worldwide. Taylor is inspired by the environment and is not restricted thematically. In some of his works he focuses on the spirituality of nature and on others, he describes the central meaning of family ties within Zimbabwean society. Often he sketches his ideas on paper and then transposes the drawings into stone. Thus sculptures are created which show powerful expressiveness.
