Taurai Mutigwa was born in 1973 in the Nyanga, Zimbabwe. He was inspired by elder artists to join the stone carvers as a way of creative expression and craft. During school holidays he would assist the senior artists then later after high school, he became a full-time informal stone carving apprentice learning from Agrippa Ndongwe and Julius Chinhoyi. Taurai enjoys carving family abstracts and works on opal, spring stone, fruit serpentine and any good stones.
